REAR ADMIRAL CAN ERENOĞLU
COMMANDANT OF THE TURKISH COAST GUARD

 

Rear Admiral Can ERENOĞLU, the 11th Commandant of the Turkish Coast Guard was born in İstanbul in 1953. He is a 1970 graduate of the Turkish Naval High School and a 1973 graduate of the Turkish Naval Academy.

His initial assignment was Electronics Officer of TCG İZMİT destroyer. Prior to commanding submarine TCG DOĞANAY(S 351) from 1986 to 1991, he served at sea in Type 209 AY-class submarines as Branch Officer and Executive Officer.

He was the Chief of Staff of the Turkish Submarine Force and Commander of the First Submarine Division from 1996-1998.

He served in a variety of shore assignments. From 1991 to 1993, he was the NATO Project Officer at the Turkish General Staff Headquarters. Between the years 1993 and 1995, he was the Military Attaché in New Delhi/INDIA. In 1995, he was the Commandant of Midshipmen of Turkish Naval Academy. In 1998, he served as the Chief of Greece Branch at the Turkish General Staff Headquarters and in 1999, Chief of Force Planning Department of the Turkish Naval Forces Command HQ.

He graduated from the Naval War College in 1982 and from the Armed Forces College in 1990 both on the honor roll. He received 1 year early promotion in 1991.

Having been promoted to rank of Rear Admiral in 2001, as a Flag Officer, Rear Admiral ERENOĞLU served as the Chief of Plans and Policy Department of the Ministry of National Defense from 2001 to 2003.
Rear Admiral ERENOĞLU was the Commander of the Turkish Submarine Force from 2003 to 2005.

On 12 August 2005, he was assigned his current position, Commandant of the Turkish Coast Guard. He is married to Mrs. Serap ERENOĞLU and they have three sons Burçak, Burak and Murat. Their son Burçak is a Lieutenant in the Turkish Navy. Admiral ERENOĞLU speaks English as a foreign language.
