Social Development Support Activities (SDSA)

Turkish Armed Forces (TAF), in addition to its primary duty of defending Turkey, has undertaken the duty of sharing social, cultural, educational, economic problems, etc. of the Turkish nation. The TAF, as an integrated part of the nation, contributes to all kinds of social development efforts with the intention of reaching the level of contemporary civilization. For example, it contributes to the solution of public problems and provides people with support in basic fields such as education, culture, repair, health and environment. Such efforts of TAF are best expressed with the motto of “TAF is at the service of Turkish Nation at war time and peace time”.

The activities aiming at contributing to the access enjoyed the public to various services- primarily education and health- boosting morale of citizens in needy regions, creating public consciousness about protection of seas and environment is called “Social Development Support Activities” or SDSA.                        

SDS Activities by Turkish Coast Guard Command

Coast Guard Command, which have been striving to leave clean and secure seas with plentiful resources to future generations for 25 years now, also put great amount of effort in spreading maritime culture and awareness, as well as engendering an appreciation of the sea and naval life, in addition to its duties assigned to by laws.

One of the activities falling under this scope is the support provided by volunteer staff of Coast Guard Command to the activities of the Coastal Sea Scouts Group. The objective behind this support is to create an awareness concerning maritime culture, maritime love and environmental sensitivity in children who will are the prospective leaders and managers.

Furthermore, Coast Guard Command organizes tree planting campaigns and form Coast Guard Memorial Forests for the purpose of increasing the environmental consciousness.

In line with the principle of corporate responsibility, the Coast Guard organizes health examinations in villages without sufficient access to the health services and medicines collected through donations are distributed to the people in need.

Informative Activities

Within the frame of Informative Activities, the Command organizes meetings with fishery organizations and cooperatives for the purpose of enabling the fishermen to comprehend concerned laws more clearly, thus increasing the effectiveness of the application of laws, solving their problems, arising consciousness concerning the damage given to the environment through illegal fishing activities and increasing the awareness of the fishermen that benefit from the resources of our seas.
